NSF and HHS SBIR/STTR Funding Opportunities Now Open

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have released new SBIR/STTR funding opportunities for innovative small businesses.

National Science Foundation (NSF)

The NSF's SBIR/STTR program supports small businesses developing high-impact, science- and engineering-based technologies with strong commercial potential. As an open-topic program, the NSF welcomes innovations across a broad range of technology areas.

NSF 26-510 Phase I Proposal Deadlines:

  • July 27, 2026

  • November 4, 2026

  • March 4, 2027

  • July 7, 2027

Before submitting a proposal, applicants must first submit a Project Pitch and receive an invitation to submit a full proposal from an NSF Program Officer.

Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

HHS has released its latest SBIR/STTR Omnibus Solicitation, including opportunities through:

  • National Institutes of Health (NIH)

  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

These programs support technologies and research that improve health outcomes and advance medicine, public health, and human services.

Standard Application Deadlines for SBIR PA-27-100 and STTR PA-27-102:

  • September 5, 2026

  • January 5, 2027

  • April 5, 2027

The NIH strongly encourages applicants to consult with a Program Official early in the process. A Specific Aims page or concept paper is often required before these discussions.
