What is THE Nucleus Institute?
Innovation Through Collaboration
The Nucleus Institute is Utah’s hub for convergence, bringing together higher education, government, industry, and capital to solve the state’s most pressing challenges. We operate at the intersection of innovation, commercialization, policy, and workforce. Through initiatives like Convergence Hall, the Utah Innovation Fund, and the Talent Hub, we provide the resources and connections to turn ideas into impact. Whether you’re a student, founder, policymaker, entrepreneur, or professor, Nucleus is where bold thinking becomes real-world change.
The Nucleus Institute fuels innovation and convergence in Utah through five key initiatives:
nucleus^funding
The Nucleus Institute exists to fill critical gaps in our capital ecosystem. We help provide funding, both dilutive and non-dilutive, through programs like the Utah Innovation Fund, a $40m fund created by the state to invest in deep technology and research coming out of Utah Institutions of Higher Education. We also support and facilitate grant programs through the Utah Innovation Center.

The Nucleus Institute is the hand off from Utah’s universities to Industry. When a technology or research is ready to commercialize we provide education, training, connections, and support for companies to begin their startup journey.

The Nucleus Institute seeks to create the best policies and regulations in the state of Utah to attract business and fuel innovation.

The Nucleus Institute manages all innovation districts in the state of Utah through a hub and spoke model. The innovation district hub is Convergence Hall, a state of the art innovation campus currently in development at The Point which will be a physical space to converge the community.

Like bees in a garden, the Nucleus Institute pollinates the Utah ecosystem by connecting students to high impact projects, founders to mentors, and organizations to the relevant sectors they need to thrive and grow.
