The Nucleus Institute Launches PolicyLab, a Statewide Policy Research Resource

New initiative connects university researchers, industry experts, and Utah legislators to support informed policymaking on emerging technology issues.

The Nucleus Institute announced the launch of PolicyLab, a new initiative designed to expand and support the flow of information between research and legislation on the technical policy questions shaping Utah's future.

PolicyLab serves as a responsive, statewide resource connecting university researchers and industry experts with legislative offices. The initiative produces timely, accessible policy briefs on complex topics including advanced nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, translating research into clear guidance for Utah lawmakers.

Utah has established itself as a national leader in adopting forward-looking policy on emerging technologies. PolicyLab was built to support that momentum, giving legislators a reliable connection to the state's academic and industry expertise.

The initiative also serves as a hands-on training ground for the next generation of professionals. PolicyLab's inaugural intern cohort launched in January 2026 during the legislative session, where they gained direct experience translating research into real legislative impact. Building on that momentum, PolicyLab welcomed an expanded cohort for summer 2026 as the program continues to grow.
